It has been brought to my attention that Sally Apokedak, a regular around here, recently won in Round II of the “Out of the Slush Pile” award over at the blog Novel Journey. I’ve found that God is more interested in tearing down idols and building up faith than in giving me what I’d like. I’ve been asking God for a book contract and he’s been giving me patience instead. He’s good that way. Like a mother dishing up broccoli when the kid asks for candy.

Canaan, prayer does change things, but not always in ways we imagine. But God does say in His Word that we don’t have because we don’t ask, so I think asking fervently is a good thing. How will God answer? It will be exciting to find out.
